hi friends
how was your weekend?
ours was jammed packed - lately since the kids have been out of school we've been trying to keep them busy and not too house bound, I didn't enrol lliam in day camp since last year was a horrible experience - we thought it would be wise to give him a break this year and next year reconsider. for the most part the kids are good with each other and enjoy each other's company. this week is a mad rush to get some wholesale orders out the door and trying to put a big dent on web shop orders. I know it may seem maddening from the outside that my days are spent always trying to catch up, hence the late hours.
one of the things that is calming for me is carving spoons, I always have a few on the go and when I need a break from sewing or waiting for something to dry - I carve. in the past I would get distracted with surfing the web and I find that carving doesn't make me feel like I wasted my time (for example losing an hour looking at pinterest).
the ones in the first picture are in the process of being sanded and then they will be oiled. I will have them for sale, but not sure when. I am really unsure how much to charge for them - they do take time to make and each are one of a kind, hmm will let you know when I figure it out.
have a great start to your week!!
xxa
Wow, this inspires me to take on a new hobby! Which wood carving tools do you use? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI use a frost knife and a hook knife both from dictum tools in germany
DeleteI was thinking of you when I was in kennsington yesterday . Hope to catch up with you soon .
ReplyDeleteHi arounna, could you tell me which type of wood you use? my husband also likes to carve (he even made a butterknife) but this wood seems different, I like the colour.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christien
it's walnut and oak
Deleteokay, thanks, it looks so grey as if it is already weathered... love them!
DeleteThese spoons are looking so lovely already, looking forward to seeing them finished. Pricing must be difficult for spoons, I've seen huge variations in pricing for hand carved spoons, but I'm sure you'll find the right price for you.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of, have you seen the video of the London spoon carver? It's a BBC video available on YouTube, here is the link http://youtu.be/6XJqm-74AV8
I love that he gets his wood from the local cemetery and that he was brave enough to set up a shop in town.
thanks for sharing the video - I enjoyed it!
DeleteYou're so talented A! They are beautiful! Your should bring your carving knives so we can carve some with Mexican wood while sitting on the deck :)
ReplyDeleteoh they are beautiful...you are right about pinterest, it's so addictive!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to try spoon carving too and spend less time pinning.
:)
