ragged beauty
these are old blankets used by fishermen in Japan from the 19th century - they were pieces from a show I saw with John called "ragged beauty" in San Francisco - the show consisted of contemporary and old works that were from the idea of recyling, which is very big these days in both art and fashion. The indigo color was easily attainable, therefore became the staple of the working class in Japan. The beauty in the pieces is the many layers of history and the handmade quality. Absolutely beautiful!
